To support research from innovation and interdisciplanirity. Our area of work is implemented in Spatial Humanities, with the application of Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) and Digital Cartography to scientific projects on Humanities and Social Sciences.
Hence, we aim to provide scientific-technical services, from an interdisciplinary, multi-criteria and competitive approach. Furthermore, based on innovation, transversality and knowledge exchange.
To this end, SIGyHD Lab provides interoperable solutions to scientific projects development, in the field of Geoinformation, web mapping or Spatial Humanities. Its applicability covers from Information Sciences or cultural geography to the most recent technologies related to databases, queries and spatial analysis, visualization, 3D modelling, web mapping, location based services (LBS) or Semantic Web. In such a way that scientific research data and results are accessible, understandable, discoverable, reusable and interoperable, with specific quality standards.
SIGyHD Lab is a scientific-technical service of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which works since 2007 in the Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences (CCHS), with a transversal and interdisciplinary nature.
The technological approach lies on multimedia cartography and, especially, on the Internet cartography, mobile devices and Web Geo-Services (Web Map Services, essentially), apart from the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing to scientific projects on Humanities and Social Sciences.
Applied research is developed with the idea of the interactivity of dynamic cartography, Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), cartograms, network visualization, spatial-temporal representations, etc.
SIGyHD Lab consists of a multidisciplinary technical group, who manage data and resources, contributing their qualification and experience to the development of different I+D studies and projects, which involve the creation and processing of geospatial information, in a way that it is possible to analyse the diverse features that interact throughout the territory, becoming a effective cornerstone for research projects with a spatial reference.
